    Whatever you do, don't take any notice of this video! If you force down the lower wishbone as in this video, you will damage the joints on the wishbone mounts!

    Good video ... but if you remove the lower ball joint that's in the knuckle you can remove the strut. No need to remove the knuckle with the strut that's the long way.. in the shop it's different... but good work

    4:38 torx bolt that he removed in one second is not coming out after two days of hammering. Be warned: the rust weld is strong with this one.

      Thank you for your comment!
      If the bolt is not treated before installation then it will be soured due to corrosion, therefore they must be treated with a special spray.

      @@autodocuk welp I pretreated the bolt for 3 days before and everyday afterwards. I would be hesitant to say that in all cases you can treat this bolt and have it come out. Gonna have to heat the knuckle and try to break that weld in some extreme cases such as this.

    Is there no lower insulator needed at the base of the coil spring or did i just miss it?

      It is not possible to answer your question, you can find this information in the technical documentation for the repair of your car.

    Why didn't you just remove the strut from the knuckle? You unbolted unnecessary parts.

    • @ricdean73
      @ricdean73 7 лет назад +3

      because it doesn't drop down far enough to allow you to remove the strut.

    • @autodocuk
      @autodocuk  7 лет назад +2

      You are right, it could be that way. But for ease of the strut mounting the technician decided to remove it with the knuckle. Best regards, Autodoc.

    Did u use new nut on the central shcok absorber mounting ? And put grease in there ? If u wont replace the nut there is high possibility the old nut will unscrew itself because that nut works with the turning of shock absorber. So u need always new central nut (at the top that holds shock absorber in the strut mounting) or if you dont have a new nut u need to use glue for screws. Remember ! It will destroy your mounting and even schock absorber if u wont replace it. I learnt it by mistakes.

    Very skillful mechanic, but the subframe must be lowered before to prevent damage against hydro bush of the lower arm, and final tightening of lower arm retaining nut and bolt should be carried out with the vehicle on its wheels.

    I tried to replace my struts like the video on my X type 2003. However, the lower arm is spring loaded and next to impossible to disconnect the lower ball joint or to re-secure it. The video shows the lower arm as not spring loaded and easily pushed downwards. I finally had to lower the sub-frame to complete the job.

      TOM GREGG > I have an 04 and I stated the same thing, when I tried to change out the wheel bearing assymbly it was (is) impossible to lower the are as seen in this video. now how do I now if it is spring loaded, do you have a pic of your 03 and if so are 03 and 04 the same setup.

    • @tomgregg6583
      @tomgregg6583 7 лет назад

      I have the '03 and doubtful '04 would be any different and spring loaded like mine. After days trying to copy the video I ended up dropping the sub-frame. I don't what the guy in the video did to release the tension but no way it works like the video. That video cost me a lot of lost time.

    • @mathematique99
      @mathematique99 6 лет назад +4

      Had the exact same issue. Even rented a spring compressor from autozone thinking that would fix the problem. Finally figured out the front bolt on the a-arm(the lateral bolt, not the vertical bolt) needed to be loosened to take the tension off. Much easier than dropping the subframe I'm guessing. Hope this saves someone in the future from having to deal with this problem!

      Yes its like Scott says....remove the other 2 bolts on the Lower Control arm before attempting to disconnect the ball joint on the 2003 X-type. It's a bit of a pain.

    How good to see a tutorial that shows everything in unmistakable detail. Tools displayed to show what is to be used, subtitles to show spanner sizes etc, finger points at parts in question, operative keeps out of way of camera. So absolutely excellent that in my many years of looking at RUclips tutorials this is the first time ever that I have been compelled to leave a review. My only tiny complaint is that subtitles for torques as each nut or bolt is tightened could be useful.

      You can replace the velocity rings on the half shafts-
      Typically they are corroided and cakes with grime that prevents the wheel speed sensor from detecting the speed of the vehicle.
      Try replacing ring, cleaning it or replacement of half shaft along with speed sensor- eventually they’ll all have to be replace so shop around and wrestle some wrenches to make it easier on your bill fold.
